C.S. has learned how to scream and she's not afraid to use her new skill. And by scream I mean horrible high pitched screams that make you think someone has been severely injured. My ears are ringing from the screaming. She's screams if she's hungry, she screams during diaper changes, she screams if you prevent her from eating the electrical cord/dirty shoe/crayon that looks so tasty. (She has mastered sliding backwards on her belly which allows her to find all these tasty treats.) Her first response to anything she doesn't like right now is to scream.
Of course in public, she is all smiles and cuteness. She is the baby that everyone makes faces at to get her to smile at the. Old ladies come up to me in McDonald's and tell me how beautiful she is. I love her so much. I just want her brother to be here too.

6 months old
Wow has C.S. has changed a lot in the last month. No more cute lump of baby here. We have a little person ready to take on the world.
Major milestones for the last month include:
- Tooth #2 arrived.
- She learned to roll from back to front.
- She learned to roll from back to front while swaddled (I'm not joking about this)
- She learned to sit up by herself.
- She took her first trip to SK to see her grandparents and meet some cousins.
She is currently working on making fish faces, making clicking noises with her tongue and making the "buh" sound non-stop. I wish she would work on sleeping longer during the night, but right now a good night is one where she doesn't wake up every 2 hours. She has tasted a couple different foods but until this heat wave passes
there won't be a lot of foods that she can try being served. (D keeps
asking if we can give her raw veggies and we have to explain that she can't eat raw carrots yet.) She is also starting to move around and even gets her butt in the air sometimes. I really hope she won't add crawling to her list of accomplishments at 7 months.
C.S. being 6 months old also means that D.G.'s parental leave is over next week and I have to figure out how to manage by myself. Not sure how that's going to go, but "normal" people seem to handle things just fine. I have been worried about this for the last 2 months so hopefully it's yet another case of the anticipation being worse than the actual event.

hot, hot, hot
The heat wave has arrived here. If it was just me, I could handle it. I would whine about being too hot but I could handle it. (My frosty Canadian ass would acclimatize, eventually.) However, poor C.S. can't handle it at all. And the mama who has to cuddle that poor babe to feed her is pretty miserable too. I believe C.S. will be spending her 6 month birthday tomorrow at a shopping mall because the mall has A/C and we definitely do not. Hanging out in the basement is okay for a while but there's no bathroom down here and and no DVR.

Canada Day 2012
For the first time in 3 years, I was all set to go out and take part in the Canada Day festivities put on by our city. It's a huge family oriented event and the last 2 years I was not in a place where I could stand to be surrounded by happy families celebrating our country's birthday. This year, C.S. is here with us and I was feeling able to cope with the sight of little boys running around with little flag tattoos on their cheeks and what happens? It starts pouring rain 30 minutes before the festivities are about to begin.
(and that's as far as I got between C.S. waking up and D and D.G. coming home from watching the parade from under the overhang of a store roof. Then I forgot about this post for 3 days because that's what happens when you are utterly sleep deprived.)
We spent most of the day inside hiding from the rain and watching the Euro final. Luckily the weather cleared up in time for the birthday BBQ we were invited to that evening.
It wasn't the Canada day we had planned but it did include this so I have to say it was a pretty good day.
(Yes I "had" to get Canadian flag babylegs for the holiday.)
Happy 4th to all my American friends a celebrating today.
Happy Anniversary to Merry and Max too!
