52 Weeks: Week 29

I'm getting ready to take the girls on a short road trip (I must be crazy) so I need to get this done now. I should have written it yesterday but I was preoccupied with hoping the the royal baby wouldn't arrive on Jeanette's little girl's birthday (which of course he did).

Week 29 flew by which means nothing too stressful happened and we had lots of time to play in the sun. I finished the cardigan for D but she refused to be photographed in it.

This is C.S. in our current favourite park. She prefers to climb up the slide and go down the stairs.

My hair still has not recovered from the haircut when I decided that I should have bangs (huge mistake) so if I want my hair out of my face, I have to use 2 pony tails. C.S. loves them and has started requesting "tails" for herself.

I love seeing my girls together, especially when D "reads" to C.S.

We finished up the week with a birthday party for my friend E's daughter. The day started out Gray but ended up beautiful and the kids wore themselves out completely on the DIY slip and slide.

52 Weeks: Week 28

Week 28 included swimming lessons, a couple play dates, some crafting and getting locked out of the house when my key literally broke off in the lock.

I managed to find one time all summer when I could have both girls in swimming lessons at the same time. D rocked her lessons and ended the week jumping of the diving board, without a life jacket! C.S. isn't quite ready for any diving boards but over the course of 2 weeks went from having her arms locked around my neck and shouting, "No, no no" to strolling around the pool all by herself and going down the slide. (Can I also be happy that nearly all of my body is hidden in this picture? Must find an at least slightly more flattering bathing suit.)

Tuesday afternoon during naptime, D and I went out for a walk in the rain. I don't know why, but being out there with her, splashing in puddles and watching for rainbows, I had a moment where I felt such pure happiness and love. I wish I could have a moment like that every day.

Despite having a large pile of yarn waiting to become a granny square throw, I have bypassed that project and started on a cardigan for D to wear to her aunt's wedding this summer. I realized I have never crocheted a piece of clothing other than a hat so I'm not sure how it's going to fit, but if she likes it then it doesn't really matter.

Sunday was D.G.'s birthday and I made him a delicious brunch featuring Banana Bread Waffles. They are great by themselves, even better with coconut yogurt and amazing with nutella and whipped cream.

52 Weeks: Week 27

This is going to be a quick one before I end up 2 weeks behind.

The week started out with Canada Day. It was a very hot sunny day that included a parade and a bbq in the back yard. Then most of the family decided to cool of their feet in the pool. Somehow we went from this:

to this:

I'm still having troubles thinking of things to do that let us spend lots of time outside but not too much time in the sun. Thanks goodness for colouring, or as C.S. says it, "cuddering."

At the end of the week D was invited to a birthday party for one of her Kindergarten classmates. Rock climbing with 13 kids sounds like torture, but the instructors were amazing and endlessly patient. This picture makes me happy and terrified at the same time. My baby was over 30 feet in the air.

52 Weeks: Week 26

Week 26 means that the year is half over, wow. D.G. took this week off from work so the first week of D's summer holiday was both easier and busier than an average week.

D.G. being home meant that I could go pick up my new ring sling during nap time as soon as it was finished. Of course it's been way too hot since then to use it but as soon as it cools off a bit we will be using this a lot.

The first week of summer was almost derailed by Mama getting tonsilitis. I tried to fight the sore throat for a week with Vitamin C and zinc and gargling with salt water but when I couldn't swallow without tearing up it was time to go to the doctor. I am SO happy for antibiotics.

Once I was on the mend, we got do some vacation type things, including taking the girls to see the dinosaurs at a theme park about an hour away.  Hearing C.S. saying "dinosaur, RAR" was so cute and D loved it.  Trying to take a self-family-portrait that includes dinosaurs was a beyond my abilities so please pretend that I didn't cut off the apatosaurus' head and that C.S. wasn't facing the dinosaurs instead of the camera.

By the end of the week, it was suddenly very summery and everyone was happy for the pool, even if it's only 5 feet across. I lost track of how many times D was in and out of the pool all weekend.
